UBC STORM THE WALL Campus wide men's Finals

Today was our third and last time to Storm the Wall. Team Wu Crew defied the odds twice to make it to finals only to be disqualified in our last five seconds of the race. There is a rule only two team members can be at the top of the wall at one time. I was the last person to climb over and when I was on top we had three guys on the wall, one too many. We went down in style true European Trash style. My bathing suit was utterly discussing and it complement my entire teams getup. We went down in UBC REC history as quite possible the worst dressed. The pictures will tell the story, I am sure them will be floating around the internet.

Today was the Semi-finals for Storm the Wall. Thank goodness my first class was cancelled this morning because I was feeling a little under the weather after last nights UBC's Annual Big Block Athletics Awards Dinner and subsequent after party at the Capric Night Club. We managed to beat our qualifying time with a solid 14:16 finishing time.

STORM THE WALL 2006

Today was Strom the wall. What the event entails is: swim 225m, sprint 450m, cycle 2.5km, run 1km and then STORM THE WALL. There are teams of five and each person does one leg of the race and then everyone climbs over the wall. The team I was on was made up of Eng. Fizzers and our team name was Wu Crew. The team name originated from the summer of 2004, went we were all in Wuerzburg Germany, I was visiting when Evan, Peter and Colin who were on co-op. Bob was also on the team he was on co-op in Hannover Germany the same summer.

Team Members: Evan Morris, Peter Eugster, Colin Enderud, Bob Lai, and Matt Harriman (me!)
left to right: Bob, Evan, Matt, Pete, Colin

Me teaching the team how to stretch.

Here's us climbing the wall today:

Matt going up the wallPete going up
*cough fatass* Evan going upColin on my back going up
Bob going up

Team time: 14:37. Not bad at all considering we are all out of shape. We sure had a blast storming!

Semi-final tomorrow! Hopefully we can beat our time! :)

I just found this picture of Evan on Bob's Page. It came with no description? I guess this is what fizzer's do with their free time; make tinfoil shields for their glasses. At lease there are two open beer cans in the background. Looks like it was another very productive day in the penthouse.

Hexathlon??

Six years in the making I finished my sixth UBC Triathlon. My very first triathlon was the UBC Triathlon in 2001 and my last, for now. I have not missed a year ever since 2001, 2002 2003, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006; I have all the t-shirts to prove it!

This year was different from all the other years because I hardly trained at all. I swam for the first time this year last Wednesday and I put my race bike together the night before the race. I had not ridden it since the Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii last October. I think my lack of effort was very evident in my race time however I would have to say it was my most relaxed race ever. I strongly believe you get out what you put in to something and since I put nothing into training, except race walking which did not help much, I was happy to finish and had lots of fun seeing people from last summers race season.

Taking life a little less serious for once is doing me some good, finally I am focusing more time I use to spend training studying and I am making some waves in my school work for once.
